- LP SmartSide is an engineered wood product — it performs well when detailing is perfect, but wood-based substrates are less forgiving of the long damp exposure Shoreline sees than fiber cement.
- Vinyl siding expands and contracts with temperature swings and can warp or crack in wind-driven rain events; it also can't be painted a different color later without special primer, and seams are a natural spot for moisture to work behind the panel.
- Cemplank and Allura are fiber cement competitors to Hardie, but they don't offer the same regionally engineered product line, factory finish warranty, or track record in the Pacific Northwest specifically.
- Primed spruce or cedar looks great new, but bare wood siding in this climate needs a repaint cycle far more often than most homeowners want to budget for, and any gap in the paint film becomes a moisture entry point.
